Formed in 1987 on the amalgamation of two of Northern Ireland's most respected schools for girls, Princess Gardens and Ashleigh House, Hunterhouse College made an immediate impact through academic achievement and national awards for technology, science, public speaking, music and leadership. It is situated in 37 acres of wooded parkland in a residential area near Queen's University.
This is a happy school where individual talents and interests are nurtured and a community spirit is fostered by giving girls responsibility for leadership.
Hunterhouse College is noted for the breadth of its provision. Teaching staff are highly qualified and experienced staff. Many are public examiners. Students enter universities throughout the United Kingdom and a pleasing number secure 1st Class Honours degrees.
Over 20 clubs meet weekly, and girls undertake voluntary work in the community.
Music and Drama are important and sports facilities are excellent. Girls represent Ulster up to Commonwealth Games level. The Careers Department is held in very high esteem.
Hunterhouse College draws pupils from all over Ireland as well as the United Kingdom, Far East, Europe, the Americas and Africa and arranges exchanges with European Schools. School buildings are modern with a new รบ1.3 million technology and science block and Sixth Form Centre. They are equipped to a very high standard, the school being a Centre of Excellence in Computing.
Boarders are accommodated in three houses, all on the Campus, one listed as of special architectural interest. The Upper Sixth have their own separate Lodge with student type accommodation.
Many girls partake in regular cultural exchange visits whilst the school acts as host to cross community intiatives. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is very active and well supported throughout the school.
